After-School Activities

After-school activities are available in most schools.  The following list offers some options for kids at public venues in Suva.

 

  • Tennis (Victoria Tennis Courts; Ph: 330 5599; Contact Junior P: 996 5380). Private and group lessons available.

 

  • Soccer (USP soccer grounds; 8:30-10 am Saturdays; Contact International School Suva (ISS) for more details, or Peter Ph: 993 7969).

 

  • Swimming (Aquatic Centre, Ph: 331 7627; Swim teachers Caroline Ph: 830 3830; Bronwyn Ph: 940 2510; Sharon Ph: Private/group lessons in own pool available). Contact Aquatic Centre for list of available teachers.

 

  • Golf (Suva Golf Club Ph: 338 1184; Contact Mohamod for lessons P: 994 3293)

 

  • Karate (available at China Club; 6 Charleton Ave, Nasese, Ph: 331 2557; Yat Sen School, Ph: 331 3131, and ISS, Ph: 339 3300).

 

  • Kids Triathlons (held once a month at USP). Contact Fiji Triathlon Association, Janette Kaipio,; janettek01@gmail.com.

 

  • Computer (E-Learning: Institute of Computer Technology; Sports City, 1st floor; Ph: 708 0770; elearningfj@yahoo.com). For kids (primary and secondary) and pre-schoolers (age 4-6) Weekly classes.

 

  • Music (piano/ guitar/ violin) See list of music teachers. Private lessons available

 

  • Dance Classes (Vou Dance School (Contact Sachiko Ph: 999 9966) and Oceania Centre Ph: 323 2832). Classes available for a variety of ages.

 

  • Ballet (Ceyen No, Ph: 998-5654). Based at ISS.

 

  • Language (French) After-school classes available at Alliance Francaise Ph: 331 3802)

 

  • Art Classes (Saturday mornings, Fiji Arts Playhouse, contact Pravin Sen Ph: 991 8252)

 

  • Voice classes (Woomie, Ph: 995-3200). Based at ISS.

 

 

For Toddlers!

  • Public parks (Suva Point behind police post/ also park next to Suva Bowling Club across from Thurston Gardens)

  • McDonalds (Laucala Bay) and Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) have small playrooms.

 

 

 

OF INTEREST

 In Suva

 

  • Colo-i-Suva Forest Park (11km north of Suva, along Princes Road):  Natural rainforest with bush walks, streams, waterfalls, and swimming holes, a great place to feel away from the city.

 

  • Hibiscus Festival held every August (with amusement rides available).

 

  • Local Secondary School Music Competition

 

 

Outside Suva (approx. 30-40 minute drive)

 

  • Kila Adventure Park: (Ph: 331 7454). Newly opened in March 2011. Located in the lush rainforest of Namosi, a 30 minute drive from Suva along the Queens Rd. Features fun for the whole family; nature jungle walks, zip lining, a cheetah park and rope courses.  Full and half day tours.

 

  • Zip Lining: Good fun for all ages. Ask for local rates.

 

 

Outside Suva (2.5 hours from Suva)

 

  • Kula EcoPark Fiji: (Ph: (679) 650 0505; kulapark@connect.com.fj).  Fiji's only wildlife park and facility for breeding of endangered species (parrots, iguanas, hawksbill sea turtles). Located 5 minutes east of Sigatoka, opposite Outrigger Resort. Open from 10 am- 4:30 pm, 7 days a week. Admission required.
