The first days
Temporary Accommodation
You are likely to be in temporary accommodation when you first arrive in Suva, possibly for as long as a month or two if the rental housing market is quiet or if you choose a house needing painting or repairs. (On the other hand, if you’re not too fussy, it’s possible to move into long-term accommodation almost immediately.)
Some hotels have a UN rate. However, it appears each UN agency has negotiated separately with hotels, and the UN rate varies depending which agency you work for. The best rates are usually a local rate. If you are negotiating with a hotel yourself (rather than having the office do it for you), you should also enquire about the 'local rate' for local residents, as this may even be cheaper than the UN rate.
